Which country are you? In Uk you can have your own savings account in your own name from age seven (building society), before that age it needs to be in your parents name. But even when in your own name your parents are still the trustees until you are age 18. My 14 year old has a building society account and bank account in his own name and although i had to sign forms to allow him to open them, he has his own bank card/payment book and gets statements sent to him, so I don't have anything to do with it.
