got fired due to disability from car accident, can i reasonably expect

insurance company to pay for lost $? I was a passenger in a car accident, the other driver at fault, drunk driving and fell asleep at the wheel.driver fled scene got lic plate# out of work (post con syndrome) lot of neck shoulder and back pain. the dr wasn't concerned with my shoulder pain he said it was just a sprain and my body is sore from accident. after 5 months out of work i went back and tried to work for 5 months ,it got physical because i wasn't the senior officer no more so I had to do the hard work. i couldn't close or open cell doors. i went back out of work seen a orthopedic dr and finally had an mri which said i had insertional injury and slight tear. been scheduled for surgery but it has been cancelled because I can't get approved because I am severly anemic. said i need blood transfusion. the insurance company dr IME said I will never be able to my type of work again. He said i have a moderate disability. I was fired because I was out for 1 year and they wouldn't let me come back to work light duty
I do have an attorney but he seems to busy to explain things.I just wanted to know everyone else experience and do i need to be worried about future. How much can i expect. i have 7 children. My husband works but it doesn't make up for lost income
