How does one become a trader on the floor of the exchanges like the NYSE?

Also, what do you call these people? How much do they make? What places employ them? Any help appreciated.

To become a trader on the floor of the NYSE you buy a seat on the exchange. Alternatively, you find a job with someone who has a seat and wants you to do their trading. Traders are paid very well.
