NASDAQ, Stock Exchange?

Hi, I often hear companies being listed on NASDAQ or a country's Stock Exchange. My question is: What is the advantage(s) of being listed to them?

I tried to search the net already for some answers but I couldn't understand the terms that they use.

I hope someone can explain to me in layman's term. Thanks so much in advance.
