Son Needs Great (Fictional) Stock Pick?

My son is in high school, and is in virtual stock competition. Not understanding the short time frame, he invested in several long-term growth stocks. Now, with less than 90 days to go, its boom or bust. Might as well bust. He needs an idea for a stock costing at least $2.00 that has a chance for explosive growth over the next 3 months. Since long term growth is not a reasonable option, any ideas for a "penny stock" (at least $2.00) that can explode!!!!
(I have told him that this is not the way to invest, but now it is about winning. And sometimes, the best research is to ask someone who knows -- the YAHOO COMMUNITY!!!!)

If I learned ANYTHING trading - its this: Stay the devil away from penny stocks, or stocks with .PK or .BB after the symbol. They are far too volatile!!!!!! FAR, far, far too risky!!!

Go to a higher priced stock and buy less shares.

If you know what the market's been going through the past couple months, the best investment is to "short" or "go short" the stock OR even better yet: to buy options known as Puts.

Thanks for asking your Q! I enjoyed answering it!

VTY,

Yes, that is my real last name!

Ticker SRS US -- this is a fund that "seeks daily investment results that correspond to twice the inverse of the daily performance of the Dow Jones US Real Estate Index. In other words, if you are bearish the US housing market, this one will perform, and there's lots of juice in it, too! D

Teaching him to gamble is not the right thing to do. Betting on a long shot (penny stock) will only cause him to loose more money. If he doesn't win the competition because he bought long term growth stock good for him. In the end he is the real winner because those are the stocks that ALWAYS come out on top. Teach him the right way to invest and that stocks are not about gambling but about investing in the growth of America.
