What checks are used on a basic savings account ?

Hi everyone, i have recently been turned down by natwest and barclays for a basic bank account , i am not bankrupt but do have bad credit history. i have been given a cheque and need to cash it, i was thinking maybe try a basic savings account, but wondered if anyone knew if the same credit checks are used just for a savings account ?

Many thanks
I live in the UK are the chexsystems still applied ?

Anything to do with any credit or Bank accounts a credit check is always done usually with the companies Equifax, or Experian, you can get a copy of your credit record from Experian which Cost £2.00 on line, type in Experian.

Local Building Society, I used Dunfermline Building Society, I took my passport and a phone bill and opened the account there and then - you dont get a cash card, it is the old fashioned savings account with a passbook.

Basic savings account need proof of identity and address nothing else, they dont do a credit check so you open one straight away, alternatively some banks offer bog standard bank accounts like Halifax - cardcash account which is done by form and require same proofs as savings but they take up to 3-4 weeks to open as forms need to be proccessed, if your in a real hurry then go for a simple instant saver from the Halifax i only know about there products because i work for them...

good luck.

Try Halifax, they'd give a Cat a bank account if it strutted in with the right I.D
