I'm 4 months pregnant and we need to paint every room in the house before...
...we put it on the market....? I'm worried that the paint fumes will be harmful to me and the baby - does anyone know?
the paint we'll use will be the bog standard emulsion in most rooms, and some of that Dulux one-coat paint in the others. My partner told me to stop worrying it won't hurt baby, but I'd rather be sure... If it is NOT okay, how long do I have to wait before I can enter a painted room? Or is it not safe to even be in the HOUSE with a single painted room?!?! HELP!

Hi there, i shouldnt think that paint fumes would do any damage to you or your unborn. when i was pregnant with my 3rd daughter we were constantly painting and decorating around the house. and me and the baby were absolutely fine. Stop Worrying!!!!.. all the best to you, youre husband and the little when he or she arrivesxxxxx

Use a latex base paint, you should be fine. Don't use an oil base paint.
We painted our nursery when I was 34 weeks, I didn't smell anything. Keep good ventilation throughout the house. have fun!!

A pregnancy magazine I bought recently covered this, it was either Pregnancy or Fit Pregnancy. Either way, it said avoid painting - have your husband or boyfriend do it and don't go in the painted areas until the paint is dry. Seriously I'll cut out the article and mail it to you or email you an exert from it if if you'd like. My email is mrssarahray@gmail.com - don't let him tell you it's safe.

Just asked my doctor this question actually! He said use latex only... however he said you have to keep the house well ventilated and that if I can just skip the painting and have someone else do it.

Latex paints are okay. Make sure the rooms are well ventilated while painting, and for a couple of hours after. It doesn't hurt to wear a mask while painting either. You are passed your first trimester which is the most crucial time for baby's development. We had to rehab a house before we moved in and had to paint every room. I wore a paint mask the whole time, and so far everything with baby is normal.

Like the previous poster stated.. use latex water based paints and well ventalation. No oil based paints... and if you have to primer let someone else do that and air out the room first.
