Can anyone tell me what a day in the life of a real estate agent is really
like? Do you like it? Hate it? I am almost finished with my real estate classes and I am not sure I made the right decision. Is it really a 24/7 job? Cant I somewhat make my own hours? Should I have chosen Dental Hygiene for steady pay and flexability? I have thought about it...

you have to hussle
and be an extremely social people person, smile a lot and be cheerful and hopeful also a good trait to have is to be able to lie and tell people a piece of property is good when you know its not because you need the commision to pay your bills. it a crapy job until you have some years under you belt and develop a customer base. weekends are finished because of showings and open houses I don't know where it ends. At least if your a single dental hygenist you could hook up with a single dentist and you'd be set.

You will get out of it what you put into it. If you don't mind calling people and talking to everyone you know or don't know about buying or selling property then you'll do ok. A broker I had said if you make 10 phone calls a day then you can make it in real estate. Those calls can be to friends & family asking who they know that wants to buy or sell a house. It can be to sellers whose listings have expired, asking if they would list with you. It can also be to "for sale by owners" to try to get them to list with you. You also need to call potential buyers. Some people have the misconception that you just sit in an office and answer the phone and hundreds of people call you to show them houses. That's not how it works. A real estate agent is a salesperson. You need to be good at selling. I've tried it twice and decided I wasn't going to try it again. After a year and a half I only cleared about $6000. That was the second time. You have to pay fees to the National Association of Realtors and the multi-list service, and, of course, you split commissions with your broker and other agents involved in the sales. I'm not trying to discourage you but I want you to know that there is hard work involved if you want to make a good living. You might try to become a real estate assistant to see how you like the real estate world and still be able to draw a steady paycheck.
